What actually happens in the 90 minutes before you fly

Short answer: Plan for about 1.5–2 hours from meeting your pilot to landing back in town. The time includes transport, harness fitting, briefing, and waiting for your launch moment. The flight itself is often 10–20 minutes in the air.

01

Meet in Interlaken

You'll meet at a set point in town, often near the landing field at the Höhematte or another central spot your operator confirms when you book. Arrive a few minutes early. Bring closed shoes, layers, and your booking confirmation.

Nerves usually peak around the meeting point. Your pilot will introduce themselves, check who's flying, and explain the rough plan for the day.

02

Drive up to the launch site (~20 min)

Operators drive you from Interlaken up to the mountain, typically toward Beatenberg or similar slopes above the valley. The road winds through forest and opens into views that already feel like the adventure has started.

Use this time to ask questions. Pilots prefer questions in the van. Silent worry at launch helps no one.

03

Harness, helmet, and briefing (~10 min)

At the launch you'll put on a helmet and step into the tandem harness. Your pilot clips everything together. Modern harnesses require every strap to be locked correctly before takeoff.

You'll get a short briefing: how to stand, when to run, and what to do at landing. When I say run, run. That single instruction matters more than anything else you'll hear.

04

In the air (10–20 min, conditions permitting)

Once airborne you sit back in the harness. Your pilot steers; you look at lakes, peaks, and the valley below. Standard scenic flights are calm. Acrobatics happen when you've booked something more dynamic and conditions allow.

Many first-timers relax within the first minute. Takeoff usually feels bigger than the flight itself.

Landing back in town (~5 min)

Most flights land in or near Interlaken, often the Höhematte park. Landing is usually soft: a few steps as the wing slows. Then photos, debrief, and you're free to explore town again.

Photo and video packages are often paid on site (~CHF 40). Phones stay packed away during the flight. See what to bring for GoPro rules.
